My family had one of these when I was a kid, and the automatic doors were always failing. Is that a common problem?

Probably. I’ve never had any major problems with them. Right now they just buzz from time to time because the contacts that tell the van they are closed are dirty. I got 194k miles  out of my first transmission, which might be some sort of record. I’m also on my second engine.

Loved driving ours. Room, power, and visibility. Swallowed up the tandem. Or three teenagers and our luggage. Replacing the transmission would have cost what it was worth, though, and we bid it adieu.

Exactly how I feel about ours. We’ve been all over the country in our Oddy and it has more than 200 k miles on it. Though the transmission cost more to rebuild than it was worth, I couldn’t replace it for $3,500 so I rolled the dice and hoped it would last a few more years. We’re on our second engine, too. But I’ve seen nothing that I’d like to replace it with, though we are starting to look.
